About Lucid Horizons
A small outfit from down under, with a global client base
Lucid Horizons started out in Australia back in 2015, as a small sole proprietor business, operated by the owner, Daniel Sloan. During the last 7 years of operation the business has grown, now operating as an incorporated company based out of Melbourne, Australia, and working on larger projects including in some cases workign with sub-contractors and partners.
Lucid Horizons customers come from all over the world, as we mostly work remotely, and are fairly flexible on our operating hours. We've worked hard to build tools that make this easy, such as:
- A client portal application, that provides access to projects and the ability to request scope changes, check meeting minutes, invoices, and more.
- An online messaging platform for interactive/real-time discussions without needing meetings for everything where everyone has to find a compatible time for their timezone.
- Tools like Zoom for "face-to-face" communications when needed.
- For software work, we provide "preview" environments, providing access to preview the work as it proceeds through milestones, before anything is published.
- Good old email, still the staple method for keeping everyone updated on the progress of projects.
We prefer to use tried and tested technologies, and mix in new cutting edge technologies where needed rather than as a default. The technologies we use most often include:
- Python and Typescript as programming languages
- Django or FastAPI for server side
- TailwindCSS most of the time, as a default, with other favourites being Bulma and the old clasic, Bootstrap
- React, NextJS, and GraphQL for complex applications
- Deployment to environments like Heroku for smaller applications, or using Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform to deploy to Kubernetes
